Easy Home remedies to keep that youthful look even after 50

Your skin is the largest organ that you have, so you want to take care of it. A Glowing skin is typically seen as a sign of health and vitality. Dull or dry skin, on the other hand, can make you feel less than your best. Many factors cause our skin to age. Some we cannot do anything about; others we can influence.

One thing that we cannot change is the natural aging process. As time passes, we all get visible lines on our face. It is natural for our face to lose some of its youthful fullness. We notice our skin becoming thinner and drier. Our genes largely control when these changes occur. The medical term for this type of aging is “intrinsic aging.”

We can influence another type of aging that affects our skin. Our environment and lifestyle choices can cause our skin to age prematurely. The medical term for this type of aging is “extrinsic aging.” By taking some preventive actions, we can slow the effects that this type of aging has on our skin.

There are several products and lifestyle changes that you can implement as part of your beauty and skincare routine and the best part is that you probably already have everything you need in your kitchen, or medicine cabinet.

You can get younger-looking skin by using some of these basic ingredients from your kitchen and making a few small changes to your daily routine. The sooner you put these home remedies into effect, the easier it’ll be to prevent skin damage and reduce signs of aging.

Think of it as your future self-sharing some smart skin care tips with your younger self.

1. Stay well hydrated

Water keeps your skin plump, elastic, and smooth and because water evaporates from the skin, you need to constantly replenish your body with water. If you don’t, your skin will end up dry and saggy.

Your skin is made up of cells that need water to function well. The connection to drinking water and having healthy skin is still ongoing, but at least one 2015 study (Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol. 2015)  concluded there’s a strong link between drinking more water and having healthier skin.

So, skip the Soda and load up on H2O. Your future self will thank you. Aim for at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

2. Eat Cooked Tomatoes. Cooked tomatoes? What?

Yes, you read that right. Cooked tomatoes are one of the best foods you can eat to maintain youthful skin. Tomatoes are full of a powerful antioxidant called Lycopene. This antioxidant helps to protect the skin from sun damage and it is best absorbed by the body when cooked or processed, hence the cooked tomatoes.

Another option is to opt for some roasted tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, or organic ketchup instead of raw tomatoes. And if you don’t like tomatoes, no problem! Red peppers and beets also contain Lycopene.

And not just eating tomatoes, you can also apply it directly to your skin. So, the next time you are at the market, grab a few tomatoes for a refreshing face mask. Place a layer of tomato slices on your face for 20 minutes to rejuvenate stressed, tired skin.

Tomato helps reduce inflammation and naturally brightens skin. If you feel silly sitting around with tomato slices on your face, you can also blend tomato pulp with olive oil to make a smooth, spreadable (and tasty) face mask

3. Develop a Green Tea Addiction

Majority knows that green tea is full of antioxidants, but what we might not know is that drinking a cup of green tea twice a day for six months can actually reverse the sun damage on your skin.

Green tea has high concentrations of catechin, an antioxidant that is well-known for its anti-aging effect. It protects your skin against UV radiation, thus helping to prevent the growth of moles and age spots. Catechin also has some anti-inflammatory powers that help delay the onset of wrinkles.

If you don’t like the taste of green tea, you’re in luck, because you can apply it topically and still get the same anti-aging benefits!

4. Honey

Honey is rich in nutrients and is a great moisturizer for skin of all ages. It also helps speed up cell regeneration and may even reduce the appearance of wrinkles when used regularly.

Did you know that Cleopatra took milk and honey baths to keep her skin fresh and wrinkle-free?

She was definitely onto something, because honey is fantastic for your skin. It is full of antioxidants, it opens up your pores, and it moisturizes your skin. So, ditch the face wash (which is probably loaded with harsh chemicals anyway) and start washing your face with honey.

You can simply slather honey on your face and neck, then rinse with warm water after 20 minutes. For extra glow, mix 2 tablespoons of honey with milk powder and water to make a mask that softens your skin and helps lighten dark spots.

5. Papaya facial scrub

You may know about papaya being good for the eyes because it has a lot of vitamin A; the same reason ensures it has a strong antioxidant action and this makes it good for your skin, too. Besides, the enzyme called papain in papaya can digest the dead cells on the surface of the skin and makes the skin more elastic and firm.

To make a papaya mask, cut a few pieces of a totally ripe papaya fruit and mash into a smooth paste. You can add a pinch of honey into this so that your skin also gets some moisturizing. Apply this on the face and after 15 minutes, wash away with warm water. Do this regularly, twice a week at least for best results.

6. Coconut milk and oil to moisturize dry skin

Coconut oil is a common ingredient in many skincare products, but it can be used on its own to create younger-looking skin. It is a treasure-trove of vitamins and minerals; it also has the ability to moisturize your skin and keep it soft, supple and radiantly young.

This non-greasy moisturizer can be applied daily to your face or your entire body. Its richness makes it a great overnight moisturizer, but it works well any time of day. Be sure to look for a quality liquid coconut oil that is cold-pressed.

To get the coconut milk, you grate raw coconut and squeeze the milk out of it. Apply this coconut milk onto your face; stay for about 20 minutes and then rinse it out with warm water. As a bonus, it has antimicrobial properties that protects your skin from infection.

7. Use a safe, mineral-based sunscreen daily

A clean, mineral-based SPF should be applied daily, all year round. UV rays are the primary cause of the texture and color changes of skin aging. To protect your skin, it is recommended that you use a mineral-based sunscreen (look for active ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) that is SPF 30 or higher.

It should be applied as the final step in your skin care routine every morning. Because mineral sunscreen is a physical barrier, it should be applied as the last step before makeup: Any skin care products you try to apply after won't penetrate.

CONCLUSION:

While these are just some ways, it is important that these are accompanied by a healthy lifestyle with a well-balanced diet, moderate amount of exercise, good hydration, good sleep, and of course reduced stress.
